Traveller Pride Week got off to a great start this week in Donegal with a special event held on Monday at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny with the recently elected Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr. John Campbell officially marking Travellers Pride Week 2014 in Donegal.
Donegal Travellers Project displayed a beautifully decorated caravan and invited members of the public to come along and visit the caravan and learn more about Travellers and Traveller culture.
There was also traditional music, song and craft organised by the Donegal Traveller Interagency Group, in conjunction with Donegal Travellers Project and supported by Donegal County Council and the Department of Justice and Equality, to help promote Traveller culture in a positive way to the wider community.
Traveller Pride Week is an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of Travellers to Irish culture and society and also to raise awareness of Traveller culture and tradition.
Traveller Pride Week is happening all over the country with numerous initiatives taking place to promote Traveller culture in a positive way with the local community.
